My address was 4405 Vermont Drive, Dover. It stuck in my head. I just Google Earth'ed it and it looks like a bunch of new stuff is popping up around it but at the time is was new base housing and nothing was around in the surrounding fields.
We walked to school through that little town to the north-east we called Lebanon. Then across the bridge over the St. Jones and through that swamp. The flies ate you alive along that 3/4-mile walking path. It's called Old Lebanon Road on Google Earth, but it's just a walking bridge and path.
Before you get back to civilization on the other side of the path there is that chicken-foot bare patch to the south of the path. It's still like I remember. We called that The Pitts and we rode our mini-bike there. Next, on the same side of the path, is the football field where I played bench warmer for the Dover Air Falcons. My school was that group of buildings to the north there. And, that building at the intersection of North Hawethorn and Old Lebanon with the L-shaoed parking lot is where my dad worked. He was the chapel manager for DAFB. He had a second chapel on the base. He made me mow the lawns and scrape gum off the pews. I still hate gum.
