Looking for a picture of the rear suspension. Do they run some sort of short track bar on the rear axle? Looks like it does but I haven't been able to locate one to take a look. Any help would be much appreciated.

It is a shock. It mounts by the pinion flange and goes to the frame.

I have the mounts if you want them. You will just have to get a shock.

wierd, I wonder if I couldn't just build a short bar in place of the shock. I am looking for the brackets. Do you have any pictures on what they look like? The shock is probably some super expensive specialty item.

You can order generic shocks by length and end style. I've found most of them to be surprisingly cheap.

I will try and remember to grab you some pictures today. They are simple.

If you can't find the brackets, you can have the ones I have for $20 + shipping. That is what I paid for them.

Here is the pictures you were looking for. I couldn't find the brackets I had, so when I was at the junk yard this weekend pulling disc brake parts I snapped theses for you.

I really don't know what it was for. Most of the Explorers I looked at were v8's, so they also had the factory traction bars. My mom's '97 4.0 Explorer has this shock as well.

If you want the lower bracket, I can go back and grab it for you. It wouldn't cost but hardly anything.

I already have the lower bracket. I wanted the frame bracket as I really didn't want to make one. Was hoping it would help with the frame flex that these vehicles have when hitting bumps. I plan to tow a trailer with mine and figured it might help in that department.

I doubt it will help with frame flex. If you want to solve that problem, you should add a couple more rear cross members.
