Well Ive been noticing the fan kind of being weird, well to me, Ive never had a radiator fan connected to the motor. All my vehicles have had radiator fans that electrically work and kick on at certain temps. This fan is always on, and sometimes it spins alot faster than normal. Heres a post I did in the v6 forum that no one could help me with.

Ok so when I start my 99 ranger, the radiator fan usually is spinning very fast for some reason, and is loud because of all the air its moving. It usually goes away within a minute. Well today I noticed it had come on when I first drove it, but later in the day, more than a few hours later. I started it and the fan wasn't on at all.

Im wondering how the heck this fan operates. All vehicles ive experienced with have had e-fans and only kick on at certain temps.

any info on this fan system for my 99 ranger 3.0 5spd would be much appreciated.

So anyways. I have always had e-fans on all my vehicles, they came that way from factory. This is my first ford and I don't like a couple of things ford engineered for this truck, I know why their stocks are in the toilet now.

I am interested in installing an electric fan in my 99 3.0 v6 5spd ext cab ranger xlt. How much does it cost for all the stuff I would need? Can I do this myself (im mechanically inclined) ? Where can I find instructions on doing an e-fan swap?

Thanks

When cold, a fan clutch is locked in for a few seconds. After that, it locks and unlocks based on temperature. When you started the truck later in the day, it was disengaged because the coolant wasn't hot enough to lock the clutch up. As the truck warms up, the clutch will engage to lock the fan as necessary. Sounds like perfectly normal behavior.
