i replaced my transmmssion. a40d. it shifts hard almost like a shift kit.
can this be fom adding too much trans fluid. the fluid level is about an inch over the crosshairs on the dipstick? too much pressure?
may have been a simple mistake i made but i need an anwser

One thing to check is your vacuum modulator (the thing on the side of the trans that looks like a distributor vacuum advance unit). This is the component that allows smooth shifts.
:icon_idea: Make sure the vacuum line is attached to it and leak free, also that there is no trans fluid in the vacuum line (bad unit if there is fluid).

well 1st and second gears are really the only hard shifters. and yes the vacuum mod is hooked up right but i dont think it has smooth flow. the hose that connects to it is bent to where thee might be a crease or kink in it. does it matter if the v. mod. is turned left or right?

My vacuum line faced towards the front, but I don't think it matters. As far as the line, you can test it by idling the engine and noting if there is suction at the end of the line where it hooks to the modulator. If not, you can cut off an inch or so where the kink is and replace it with a 2" piece of vacuum hose.:icon_thumby:

yes there is suction from the hose connectiing to the vacumm mod.

ok so i checked everything. the vac. mod is fine . suction fine. but the fluid was kore than i thought. its about 2 or 21?2 inches over full on the stick i gotta drain that
