So I acquired an 87 ranger with "transmission problems" I was told it didn't go into drive but went into reverse. So I adjusted the bands and reverse works great. After many tries (torque wrench won't fit onto the 5/16 square nut) we finally got it rolling forward. at first it was lots of gas and then it'd roll a little when I let off, now it'll go in reverse, then I put it in drive and after a second or 2 it goes forward, seemingly no problems. 2 questions

Does this sound like I fixed it correctly?
Do you for see any problems in the immediate future?

It's on a non op, so I can't legally drive it out of my drive way, and I can only get a "day pass" to smog it. I have to do the timing and a tune up before I go smog it(sat for a few years, blowing a lot of smoke but it's looking better the more it runs) I'm just curious if I get it into second gear is it going to crap out. If not what about the rest of the gears?(was told the "high gears work fine" when I bought it)

Let me know what you think, I'm probably going to have to just try it I imagine but hopefully I can get some opinions first =p Can't do anything till Thursday/Friday either way. Thanks =)

The 2 bands you adjusted dont have anything to do with it going forwards or backwards. The 1 band is second gear and the other band is overdrive. Try putting it in manual 1st gear and see if it goes forward if so then the OD sprag is not holding.

That's weird. It literally wouldn't budge in any gear but reverse until I adjusted them. What would cause that
