well guys i drove thorugh the river in my 96 ranger to rescue a dodge durango and a bronco. anyway splashed water over the hood and now it cuts out when you put the pedal more than 3/4 down. im thinking my plugs got wet...what do you pros thing? im going to change out the oil and re lube the hubs and what not.anyway lemm know thanks
 
Time for a snorkel. You may want to do something with the differential fluid too.....
 
it still cruises down the hiway at 60 as long as yer easy on it so i dont think i messed it up to bad. it was only under water for a second or 2 at the most. ill check the diff fluid and see. what else should i do?
 
differential, tranny fluid , engine oil/airfilter, would start there, then repack the front bearings

btw the air intake is just behind the bumper....

yea i know the air filter is just behid the bumper but its a ittle higher up. what about the distributer or whatever it is called on these newer vehicles?
 
ok now that i know what to change, any ideas on what is causing the problem? i need to find out whats causing it not what all i need to change.
 
well guys i got the problem fixed. had water in the air intake. took the air filter out, dried it out, and got all the water out of the hose and the air filter box. it runs good now and cut out a little bit, but i think that once the engine heated up it got rid of all the water that mighta been in it.
 
yup it runs like a champ now. do i really need to change the oil and diff fluid if it was underwater even for a second?
 
It would be a good idea. Axle seals arent exactly meant to keep water out, so much as keep the diff fluid in.

Might not have caused any damage with the water in the intake, but changing your oil is good, cheap insurance. Cover all the bases now, so you dont get unexpected problems later :icon_thumby:
 
haha ok ill change the oil payday. its about due for one anyway. last time i ever go through the river when im rolling stock to pull someone out. if i do next time ill take it easy through it.
 
Rangers were made to be driven, they don't swim well otherwise Ford would have put a prop under the bumper. I know what will help you next time...lots of lift and gears:icon_thumby:

run your front diff breather up into the engine bay and change your diff oil. regrease your spindle bearings too,they get contaminated pretty easy from water crossings and mud
