automatic transmission problem

I have a 2002 Ford Ranger and just this past Saturday, the O/D OFF light started blinking on and off and I noticed that when it went from 1st to 2nd it had a jerk. Also, when I went to pass a vehicle it would not shift down.

Anyone have any cures for these symptoms other than a new transmission?

I'm no expert, but it doesn't sound like you need a whole new tranny. Could possibly be an electrical problem, or even some sort of vacuum leak. If you have an Aamco where you live, I'd take it there. They give a free diagnosis on trannies, maybe try and find some sort of shop where you live and see what they can do for you.

Pull the codes with a scanner then go from there.
