Clutch Adjustment?

I was wondering how you adjust the clutch in a 1997 ranger? I cant find anything on adjusting it. I have to push my clutch to the floor to shift and I dont like that, it makes it harder to drive... :icon_confused:

It's not adjustable. You have a failure in the release system. If you're losing fluid, check the bellhousing - it's probably the slave. If not, the master is a lot more likely. If it's been this way since you bought the truck, you should try bleeding it using instructions posted here in the forums before you replace anything.

did you have the flywheel machined? if so you now need a shim between the crank hub and the flywheel the same thickness as what was machined off the flywheel.

fastpakr, he just put a clutch in his truck.

I've never needed to shim the flywheel for a basic machine job.

This sounds very much like air trapped in the system (most likely in the master cylinder).

If I found a mechanic installing a "shim" between my flywheel and crank
he'd need a gifted team of surgeons to extract the flywheel from where
IN his person I'd put it.

The system is DESIGNED to tolerate having the flywheel mechined (several times)
because ford specifies that the flywheel should be resurfaced when replacing the
clutch.

I have never NOT had a flywheel machined (actually it's done on special rotary blanchard grinder) and have never had a problem.
