so my 84 ranger has been sitting with out a motor for about 5 months now and i want to get it back on the road but i don't know if i want to keep the 2.8 and auto (both need rebuilding) or put a 2.3 with a 5 speed in it i'm just wondering what every ones opinon is on the 2.3 in a 4x4

i love my little 2.3 but i dont know how well it would behave with 4x4 running gear? i think any motor other than the 2.8l would be an upgrade.

Proud owner of a 2.3 4x4 right here.

Gearing is important. But the 2.3 is reliable and simple.

If you decide to keep a V6 go 4.0.

my rackbodys beat to hell 2.8 still starts fine for what it went thru(no oil change in like over a year). keep the 2.8 imho. they are reliable

the 2.8 has been a good motor but i think its dead that and the more i think about it the more i like the idea of a 4 cylinder with a five speed im sick of the carburetor ranger44 what gears dose your truck have and what are you getting for gas mileage

2.3 turbo. Of couse there's lots of stuff to convert, lengthen and shorten and replace when doing this. The 4x4 makes it more complicated.
