It's probably a home made ITX or similar based computer with a fabricated mount for the display panel.

thats eather a monitor or touch screen. with a computer running windows, i things are windows, based, but nothing that just runs, xp like that, iv seen it done for doing real time data logging.

Can you translate that to English? I'm not sure if that's drunk speak or you're being too lazy to think through what you write.

its a blank screen, or a touch screen, with a computer some where else in the truck, i have seen some A/v stuff that is windows based. but nothing that will just run xp like that. i have seen that set up done for running real time data logging, for race applications.

I'd certainly be surprised if it wasn't. It's not uncommon. HERE's one page where that sort of thing is discussed. Google 'car pc' and see what you come up with.

i wish it was both, im at work, and trying to do both, work and the rangerstation. it doesn't turn out the best some times.

Interesting. I'm not sure why it takes any longer to write in complete thoughts, but at least the second time around was comprehensible.

so do you think i could buy a pioneer or kenwood double din stereo deck and re wire it to use windows?

lol cause, im better with car audio then typing/ english

if you had and the right connection you could, but to make it touch screen get more complicated. and it would be harder to make it work with out the right stuff

No. These are complete, custom made systems. A miniaturized pc mounted elsewhere in the vehicle tied into an LCD panel mounted in the dash, usually touch screen.

You can use any computer really, its just how much space do you want to lose, and how stealth you want it to be. Also making sure to have the right power supply, among other things. The most common touch screens used for this are called Lil'put, and come in different sizes, with 7" being the most commonly used for in-dash.

they make those reallyyyy small laptops now, like fit in your palms

they are pricy, but there's no reason you couldn't seperate the top half from the keyboard/hardrive/memory half and such, and just extend wires and hide in your dash or something.

it's a stretch, but it's possible.
