my vote would be for a plugged oil pickup tube and collapsed lash adjusters... unless you drove for a while with it like that, you could be ok...

ya i went probably 1/2 mile before i noticed. Plus the motor has somewhere close to 250,000 miles on it. so i think i'm just going to replace it.

I ran my 2.0 dry once...amazingly it survived and went on for another year or so before I was forced to replace it...

But...if you've got the urge/need to replace it then go for it...

I don't know, exactly how far I went. I was on the highway and thought I heard a strange growl from the engine. Then it started to lose power and I looked down at the speedo to see how fast I was going and check what gear I was in (I rarely got to 5th gear but it managed sometimes) I noticed the oil pressure gauge bottomed out so I pulled over and shut it off...

When I checked the oil the dipstick was dry, but after a few minutes there was some on the stick. I dumped the litre of oil that I always carried with me and, since it was winter and I was on the highway with nobody around. I decided to try to make it to the nearest service center to get more oil.

Mine was caused by oil blowing out the dipstick, and that's why I spent an few hours cleaning out the EGR and making a few other mods...

You can try draining the oil and dragging a magnet through it to see if you've got any extra shavings in there...if it's clean I'd try filling it with oil and see if it runs...

They're pretty tough little engines...hope it works out for you...

it's full of oil. I didn't let it run out. And it actually would run before i started taking it apart. I'm gonna pull the auxilary shaft tomorrow and see if it's broken or if the gear that drives the pump is stripped. If that turns out good i'll pull the motor and check out the pump. I just need it on the road ASAP so i'll probably just pull the valve cover and have a good look at everything and decide if i want to fix this one or not. Thanks for you're input tho mark. I appreciate it.

I think it's done for

250,000 seems to be a common theme for engine death. I cracked a valve at 251,000.
Shop the internet for a deal on these engines, and let them know you can go rebuild for what they want for junk. Eventually someone will want to make the sale regardless of profit. Just be patient. We got a replacement with 49k on it and had it delivered to us in Houston for $600.00.
Everything from oil pressure to engine noise is sooooo much quieter, and sooooo much stronger. Remember to go with your wiring harness, as your comp. may not pin up with a different harness. Check out 94 Ranger Insanity post, and save your self some hair! I pulled mine out! :icon_thumby:

ya I just pulled it this morning and it;s shot, after pulling the pan and inspecting some of the bearings, this motor is not worth trying to save. I've found a couple motors allready, but mine is a 94 CA model with a cam position sensor, i'm not sure if i can use any other motor except a 93 or 94 CA model.
