Paint question

I was in Tractor Supply the other day and noticed they have acrylic enamel tractor paint and hardener. Stuff is cheap too. $29.95, hardener is $14.95. I think. Anybody ever use the stuff? It's really tempting to buy a gallon and give it a try because that's less than half what you pay for automotive paint. Color selection is limited of course.

Especially together, as a 2-tone paint scheme. The wheels and trim, of course, would just HAVE to be Caterpillar Yellow.

It all depends what kind of finish you are going for... The paint they sell at TSC is good if your main objective is to make your truck one color and are not concerned with a lasting shine. If your planning to paint an off road truck and want it to look good from a distance on the cheap thats the ticket. Unless you constantly polish the truck after you paint it prepare for it to dull out. Normally you can expect the finish to be practically flat (no shine) Within a year. Most of my buddy's repaint their off-road trucks each year to fix major damage or just change color so this paint works great for them or I get straight industrial enamel even cheaper (about 25 a gallon), holds up great as far as chipping and stratches but the shine goes south in a short time. It also comes in a wider variety of colors. It all depends on your overall goal.

Caterpiller yellow?? Why not John Deere yellow?!? JK

Well I bought a quart of this stuff to play with. Mixed it 2 parts paint, 1 part reducer and sprayed a section of my parts car. Looked fantastic. Very slick and almost no orange peel.

Until the next day. The car was outside and it rained about 5 hours after I sprayed it and the temp dropped about 15 degrees. Next day it looked horrible. Oranges don't have the amount of texture this stuff had. I wonder if the rain and drastic temp drop did it or if that's just how it goes. Because it was S-L--I-C-K when i left and it was not "dry" yet. It was tacky but didn't transfer to your finger. Maybe I'll give it another shot in a couple days when the weather gets normal.

Yeah it wasn't completly hardened yet, I would give it another shot.
