ok well this weekend sucked...i tried putting in my flip kit an blocks..didnt happen....I NEED SOME ADVISE.. i tried takin the leafs off an could not get the bolt out of the shackle..it must be realy rusted in the or something...i unbolted the driveshaft 2 try an swing the axle up an over an that didnt work...so in 2 weeks im gonna just heat the bushing out of the shackle....what do you guys think of this???? i was out there for 3 hours trying everything...evan 3 diff impact guns...lots of lube....WHAT CAN I DO NEXT??? ANYBODY HAVE ANYTHING ELSE I CAN TRY???....thanks alot

Up here in the rust belt we don't even bother trying to undo them, we just take either a torch or grinder and cut everything off. You might want to try a decent breaker bar, think three feet long or more.

I've actually had to use a saws-all to cut the bolt out. even then the rubber bushing had fused to the leaf, had to burn it out.

Theres a little clip (at least on my 92) on the inside of the shackle that sometimes breaks and gets stuck on the bolt. I know it happened to me and I spent 4 hours figuring out how to remove the bolt and all it needed was a quick crack with the air hammer. Look behind the hanger and its like a little clip with a metal stop on it that breaks off.

Luckily I had a spare hanger sitting around the garage.

Here is this your prob

Sorry if they're hard to see...this is obviously off the truck. This stumped me as it against the frame.

i think im gonna just burn it out to.....

im gonna have 2 get back to you tomm about that clip..ill check...im gonna be pissed if that is all it is...lol...

well thanks alot guys...

p.s anybody know anyone selling lowering springs or blocks...or marine speakers????..or rims does not matter how big?? thanks..zeke

LOL you're welcome...I was so mad when I saw it and figured out it was all that was keeping the bolt on there.

on mine once we got the nut off i had to air hammer that sucker out. same on a explorer i was working on. i would try using a punch and hammer if you dont have a air hammer... good luck.

this mite be a dumb ? but all the weight needs 2 be off the springs right?...an do i have 2 take the out the leafs all together? or can i just take the bolts out of the shackle an not the hanger??..thanks alot

I have the same problem, i tried 3 different impact guns, nothing. I used a breaker bar with some pipe on it...nothing. Its fused in there tigher than a bulls ass...lol Im going to use a torch i guess, just im a lil paranoid about the gas tank, since im taking the old leafs out, cuz its monoleaf an i have stock springs ready. the monoleaf'd thats in there right now isnt u-shaped anymore, its bent and i cant have that

I ruined a perfectly good ball peen hammer on one of those bolts on my '89 Ranger

Ive done 4 of those now...although ive always removed junk shackles so i destroyed that part and tried to salvage the spring bushing. I can assure you ever one of them required heating with oxy or mapp gas . At some point the bolt frees itself from the sleeve and you then have the fun chore of pounding/prying it out. After i break it free i usually cut it off and use a punch to pound it out.

All the impact gunning breaker barring in the world wont matter when the rubber absorbs all the energy you are applying.

Smack the shit out of it on all sides. This can help shock and free the bolt.

Soak it in WD over night, the next day take a torch to it again, hit it with a hammer, and repeat.

im gonna try breaking mine loose this weekend again...with either the torch or a 1/2 inch drive industrial socket from my dads work and a 3 ft breaker bar lol
