2.3L wont start after puddle

well i went through a huge puddle then 5 mins later the truck stalled on me because the battery cables came loose. so i tighten them up again and it wont start. it will crank but it wont start.

there in no water in the oil and the air filter wasn't wet. and the spark plugs looked normal

also its an 89 ranger 2.3L dual spark plug manual trans

any ideas?

pull your spark plugs and crank, if water shoots out keep doing it until none comes out. * if it does not crank, it is possibly hydrolocked. (water into cylander and bends/breaks stuff) i did this on my 95 4.0 and it sucks. my connecting rod on my 6th cylinder bend. laame. also, check connections to starter if it isnt even trying, and if they are all good i would take off starter and either swap a good one in or have it tested someplace. sometimes they can fry if they are hot and go through water.

OP indicated that it's cranking. Sounds more like water in the wiring or something that was knocked loose when when reconnecting the battery cable.

That's what I'd suspect...try spraying the wires with WD-40 or some other water displacement spray...

I typically had to spray my wires and distributor often...even tried the silicone spray...ended up putting a boot on the distributor and covering over the wheel wells where road spray would come through...

Worked better that way...

well ive sprayed all the wires with WD-40 and nothing. still not starting, any other ideas?

Did you check to see that the timing belt is turning the cam gear? Your timing belt may have snapped, and that would lead to no start due to no distributor function and if it did start you'd be way out of time...

Other than that...did you try spraying some starter fluid in the TB? If the engine starts after doing that, suspect a fuel issue...

Did you check for spark?

There are many things that can cause a no start situation, and they may or may not be related to the puddle issue...I'd start with checking the timing belt, then try the starter fluid...then check for spark...if all that checks out and still no start it could be any number of other things...
