The last few days, my truck has been struggling to start. It would run fine once it started. I replaced the battery because last time my truck was acting like this, the battery was the culprit. Also, the battery hasn't been replaced in many years, so I figured I would just go ahead and replace it being that I am in the process of doing quite a bit of maintenance work on my truck. So, I get the battery replaced. The truck was still struggling to start and the truck would idle around 1500 RPMs. Now, my truck won't start at all. Won't turn over...nothing. I checked the battery with a multimeter, everything is good there. I jump started the truck and it started right up, so I'm thinking that eliminates the alternator since it will start and continue to run. I have an idea of what the problem may be now. I just want to see what you guys opinions are. So what say ye?

lose or corroded or bad connection to starter, or a bad ground somewhere. Make sure all wiring is good, then go from there

I had the same problem with my truck about a year ago. The starter motor was the culprit. I took the old starter apart and noticed that the brushes were worn all the way down, I got a brush kit from the local parts store and replaced them and all is well. You can just replace the whole starter to make life easier but me being the cheap ass that I am I only did the brushes, what the hell I saved a $100.00.

Well, after work I had some time to check things out. Just as I figured, it was the starter. I took if off and took it up to Autozone. They tested it 3 times. The first time, it passed. The second time it failed. And the third time, it wouldn't do anything. So I bought a new one and put it on and everything is good now. The only thing that gets me though is when I took the starter off, oil literally poured out of it. I guess it just never even phased me that it sits directly below the oil filter, and every time I change my oil a little bit runs on top of it. Is there supposed to be anything there that directs the flow of the oil away from the starter? I looked and didn't see anything so if there is supposed to be something there, then mine is AWOL.

I have a small funnel looking thing thats mounted below the filter. Yours could of fallen off.

My truck never had a shield or deflector above the starter. Every oil change the starter always got soaked with oil.
