Hello everyone, its been a while since i've been around here but I have a question. Alright here's what I have
1996 Ranger
3.0L
4X4 w/ manual hubs
3" BL with 33's 3.73 gears :(

Now my question is about the transmission. I am 99.9% sure I have the A4LD. About two years ago my transmission went out and now the one I have is on its way out.(Won't go into park) Is there a stronger transmission that I could swap in. I know the smart thing to do would be to re-gear my truck but seeing as I don't have the money to do that and I need my truck up and running I need to get a new transmission. I have heard some talk about swapping in a manual into my truck but i'm really not sure what transmission or if it is even possible. If anyone has any help for me or any other suggestions I would really appreciate it. Thank you

I don't know about the automatics, but a good manual tranny you could swap in is the Mazda M5OD-R1. They are much more reliable than any auto that has ever been in a Ranger. The catch is that you MUST get one from a 3.0 4x4 Ranger. No other engine in front will work, and neither will a 2WD tranny. Good luck.

It won't go into park? Are you sure the linkage does not need adjusted?

I'm pretty sure it's not the linkage. If I was to swap over to a manual trany would I also have to put in the computer from the donor truck?

Yup, if you don't want your check engine light to be permanently on (which defeats its usefulness as a diagnostic and may cause emissions inspection failures).

There is no better automatic transmission than the one you have.

And your M5OD must come from behind another 3.0L or it won't fit.
