1991 ranger 4.0 auto trans locked up

I have a 1991 ranger 2wd 4.0 when I put it in gear it stalls the motor out as if the trans is locked up.anybody had this problem any ideas?converter maybe?
 
Lockup solenoid or the lockup valve could be stuck either way valve body has to come out to replace solenoid and to check valve.
