I just purchased a 93 ranger with 83,000 and a bad 5 speed. I removed the tailgate from my 94 to have some work done to it, put the tailgate from the 93 parts truck on and noticed a strange badge on it. It is the shape of the "Ford" oval, in the same spot but is all silver with "4.5L" on it. Did some snooping online and found some SVT stuff regarding the 4.5L V6. The motor in the 93' appears to be identical to my 94' 4.0V6. I didn't look closely at the label on the driver side valve cover. Did they ever put the special 4.5L in the rangers??

i have never heard of a ranger 4.5l... especially in 93... i would run tag numbers on engine.

The Ford SVO 4.5L was a V-6 they used in what is now the Nationwide Series of NASCAR. But you would be able to tell a difference in it and a 4.0L just by the width of the heads alone. The valve cover will be extremely wider if it is truly a 4.5L, and if it is, you would also be able to tell a huge difference in the power. If you still think it is a 4.5L, think of a price you would have to have for it and let me know. I would be interested in schooling some GM boys with a Ford V-6.

My 94 has the same thing. The blue oval fell off, leaving the silver appliqué underneath. I figure it means 4.5 Length, as in that tailgate is 4½ ft. long (although I admit I haven't actually measured it). My truck has the smooth-side bed. Do stepside Rangers have a narrower (maybe 4 ft.) tailgate? That's the only thing I could figure.
Of course I could be completely off base on that. I am positive it's not a 4.5 Liter. It's a 4.0.:D I sent to Ford last year for the build sheet.
Interesting. I'll try and snap a couple pics of my emblem.

And I measured my tailgate -- it's 54 inches wide, which is of course 4.5 feet. Anybody know how wide a stepside/flareside tailgate is?

I think thats so the guys making the emblems know what size to make them.

How wide is the oval? I would say it is likely the size of the oval rather than the size of the tailgate.

I measured the silver appliqué. It's exactly 4½ inches long, so that might be it indeed!

there is a ford 4.5L v-6,but one would not come in a ranger stock. unless you got some kind of SVO ranger. But then, I dont think it would be street legal, not even in hazard county lol

asked my grandfather for a definet responce.. he built these in the edison nj plant... he said it was for the guys who put the emblems togeather... they sit with bins around them... and they would pull a chrome oval it says the size and then they reach in that bin...
