replacing timing belt PROBLEM!

took the bolt off the crank, but cant get the crank pulley off to remove the belt. can u remove it without a special tool? can u just pry it off?

Did you make sure you have the washer off?Sometimes you can just work it a little and it will come off.You can get on with a 3 jaw pulley if you make room.Doesn't you 96 have 2 bolt holes in it?I made a puller to go in these two holes and made a slide hammer setup.Pry on it gently

A crank pulley requires a pulley puller. OR you can take (with someones help) two screwdrivers on opposite sides of the pulley and keep pressure on it while your buddy taps the bolt with a hammer. The pressure on either side must be even though. You shouldnt be able to wiggle it too much. Also when it does come out dont lose the alignment key.

Yeah go to the part store and get a pulley puller for it.

You might also need one (different one) for the power steering pump if you are going to take it off (haynes manual tells you to)
