shortbed box in place of longbed box

Will a short bed bolt up in the same bolt holes as the long bed ? Is the long bed longer in the front of the wheel wells or behind the wheel wells or both? I was thinking about installing a shortbed if possable & then a short section of my damaged long bed to the front of the short bed as a seperate storage compartment.

The axle is centered under the bed. The bed will be longer in front of and behind the wheel well.

I am fairly certain that the bed bolts in the rear will be in the same location/spacing. And I believe the front bolts will probably also be in the same place relative to the cab.
