Brakes for my Mountaineer 8.8

Well ive had the Mountaineer 8.8 in my truck for 2 months now and need to hook up the rear discs (winter is coming) i need to know what i have to switch out Master cyl proportioning valve or is my rangers stuff ok the way it is. i already have brake lines ready to hook up but somebody told me that id burn up my discs with my ranger setup because the proportioning valve holds like 3 lbs of pressure for the drums so they dont fully retract and then ive also been told my stock master doesnt pump an adequate enough amount of fluid to support my discs :iamwithstupid:

your current master cylinder will work provided your truck came with RABS (likely).

There is no "proportioning valve" in your ranger (provided you don't consider the RABS control valve) and there is certainly no "residual pressure valve" in any Ranger braking system I've ever seen.

I would recommend keeping the master cylinder you have now (should be a 1" bore)
and if you have any wish for changing the braking you can swap the SPRINGS from inside a '95-up Explorer master cylinder to keep from "Getting into" the RABS too often.

I have my own plans to switch to an explorer disc axle and after I've done it
I'll actually try different master cylinder components and find out what works
best by the old trial and error method.

But you'll probably have to wait until spring (April/May) before I have
anything useful to say...

I do have two-piston front brakes from a 1997 Ranger working on my 1987 4x4.
(1990 Ranger power booster 1993 Explorer master cylinder)
