So I put a high volume water pump on my SBC today to compesate for the fact that I don't have electric fans. So I was running her aroudn town pretty hard to see how it cooled thiings down. It was running normal at about 95 celcius (sorry but its Canada) and I hit the gas to blow the doors off a Civic and the pressure exploded...literally grenaded my heater core!!! So I got covered in coolant...hot a$$ coolant and my windsheild got sprayed with coolant as it got sucked in to all the vents...WOW I think it scared me more than anything. I've never seen green while driving before.

Yeah, and especially a 305?? Economy???:D

How is a high volume pump going to compensate for no fans. Might work in Canada, I guess:icon_confused:shady

So what did the guy in the Civic do?

It would be kind of funny to look over and see a guy flipping out getting sprayed with water. :D

was your radiator cap bad or too high of a pressure? maybe the core had a tiny hole in it or something

Yeah the core was pretty bad...it was almost rusted through on the bottom and it blew through the fins on the inlet side. And the Civic was behind me so....I don't know what he was thinking. lol. The 305 thing just worked it was in my sisters Grand Prix she wrecked so I just said hey might as well through it in. Economy? Not really! With the intake, heads, cam and carb it gets about 14 mpg and about 230 hp. not bad for the smallest bore EVER!!! hahaha

I wasn't really flipping out I was sitting there burning trying to figure what the hell happened! Its good now though it runs cooler and the new core works great and doesn't leak. I didn't think the high volume pump would really make a difference but my neighbour gave it to me off his 350 he pulled so it couldn't have hurt to put it on.
