is there anything on a 5 speed shifter that needs to be lubed? it"s a 97, at times it feels like the shifter gets stuck in nuetral, if I move it around some it frees up, also it doesn"t go into 2nd easily. is it the shifter,clutch or trans? I have 3 diff. opinions from 3 diff. trans shops, any help?
 
Could be your 1-2 synchro... Mine is going bad and it's hard to shift into 2nd when it's cold... You might want to replace the shift bushings (there's a write-up in the tech library... http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/winter2007/shifterbushings.htm

It could be many things, sadly the only sure way of diagnosing a problem in a manual transmission is usually to take it apart and see what's worn...
