very stupid question. but i tried to order new balljoints for my truck today and they needed to know whether im running dana 28 or dana 35 axles. and i have no clue hahaha. is there somewhere on the axles or on the truck that says which axles im using? its a 93 xlt 4wd 4.0 manual

Ugh...i get so sick of parts stores asking that question on anything new than an 1990....

Even if you have a d35 hybrid it still uses all the same parts as the true dana 35 minus the carrier and inner shafts.

You have a d35...if you want to skip the headaches just tell them you have an explorer.

haha ok. thanks for the help guys. its just ball joints so im sure its not too critical. i figure the easiest way was to count the bolts on the front. that tech article says the dana 28 has 12 bolts and dana 35 has 10. thanks for the link

With a 4.0 you have a D35. I went through this a few months ago.... I had a D35 from a 1990 in my 88, and after only listing the info of the truck I pulled it from ('90 4.0 5spd), the guy gave me one for a D35 and one for a D28. :icon_confused:

It doesn't matter which engine he has in a 93, it will all be all d35 parts except the carrier, gears and inner axle shafts which will be d28 stuff IF it had a hybrid diff in it. Only the 4cyl trucks and some 3.0's had the hybrid.
