I have a 1987 Ranger 2.9l, whats the best exhaust system for it? Iv heard from strait pipes to flowmaster, to glass packs. And also what size of exhaust pipes. Give me some ideas.

I put a 40 series flowmaster on mine with one hollowed cat and a 2 foot section of pipe for clearance for the flowmaster. i wasnt pleased with the sound so i took it off. I suggest goin with a Universal Magnaflow High-flow cat with 2 1/2 pipe. And NO BIGGER. As far as mufflers it really depends on how loud u want it. But i say go with 2- 2 1/2 inch pipe.

My 86 2.9 has 2-1/2 inch pipe (2 ft section) with the cat removed and an 18 inch cherry bomb glasspack on it, and it sounds pretty decent, i like the rumble it gives, alot deeper sounding than it did stock lol

i have my 4.0 straight piped, its loud and sounds nice to me

On my 3.0 L, ive got a 2 1/2 inch headpipe running from the catalytic converter all the way into a (single 2 1/2 inch inlet / dual 2 1/4 inch outlet) Flowmaster Super 44 series muffler, with 2 1/4 inch pipes coming straight out the back of the muffler, with 3 inch chrome tips. Its a really good set up, My truck has a deep resonating growl at idle, and sounds good whenever i drive in the hood. the little bit bigger pipes, and dual exhaust seemed to help out in performance, because it feels faster taking off than stock, the only thing is that it can kind of get annoying when going down the highway, because its pretty loud, But other than that, its an awsome set up. You can make it less loud by putting Flowmaster 50 series muffler rather than a Super 44. But the choice is yours.

About how much did you guys's cost?:icon_confused:

Well if your doing it your self, you only pay for the muffler and piping, no installation fee's when you do it yourself, for me the prices were:
$20--Cherry Bomb Glasspack
$12--2ft section of 2-1/2 inch pipe
5$--Nifty chrome tip
5$--45 degree bend to dump before right tire
Used stock hangers and used my welder to weld it all up, no leaks no complaints :)
