excessive air blowing out of my oil fill cap!!! what should i do??? i just bought this ranger, and now its going to blow up... i should have checked this.

Slow down and check the pcv valve and faulty pcv valve is your most likely and cheapest fix. Those 2.3L are bullet proof. I've seen them run when the rings were so badly worn that you had to poor oil in the intake to get enough compresion to crank it. If it cranks fine and doesn't smoke to bad you've prob got a bad pcv. I hope this helps

yea i think that the pcv valve is sticky. the reason for this is that when i put my hand over the oil fill cap, there is no pressure, as if the valve opened. but when i take my hand off air blows out like mad when the pcv valve shuts...

edit: can anything bad happen by driving around with a bad pcv valve?

A PCV is cheap and easy to check just shake it and if it rattles it good but if not then replace it few bucks from a parts house

but even if the valve is bad, should there be THAT MUCH air coming out??? i mean oil was spraying out and everything... or with a bad pcv valve is it normal for A LOT of air to come out of the oil fill?

It's an overhead cam engine so oil is going to come out when running it shouldn't spray out like ten feet or anything but some is going to be normal

what about air?? so much air comes out that it feels like my exhaust pipe... is this because of the bad valve? should the PCV valve be open when my oil cap is off?

just wondering why so much air would be coming out of the oil fill.. theres no way the piston rings are bad, the car doesnt smoke blue and it has great power. its only at 60k

alright so this is weird, with the oil cap off, it blows air out like mad, but with my hand over it, it SUCKS IN... why else can so much air be coming out unless the rings are worn?

and no blowby coming out of the dipstick

Did you replace the PCV valve yet? If not, go do it before posting here again. They are seriously less than $5 and take less than 5 minutes to change. Heck just take the old one out and plug the vaccuum port on the intake if you don't want to spend the $5 on a new one.

You're not going to fix anything by chasing a million issues or symptoms all at once. The only way you'll fix it is by being methodical and going part by part, system by system and thinking each thing through as you go.
