Performance vs. cost. What would be better a fully welded rear end or lockers?

It's not really a performance vs. cost decision, they both do exactly the same thing, equally well usually... It's more of a use decision... If I were building a trail rig only it would definitely be welded up... My Explorer though is going to see mainly pavement, so it's getting selectable lockers... Just depends on if you are going to drive it on the road or not...

almost finished my trail rig and i went for the lincoln locker!!!

:iamwithstupid: when it comes to my rigs.

Do I recommend it, NO. 4wd is WORSE on the road in the winter with 1 or more welded axles in most cases. For those of us that get 4+ inches of snow regularly this is VERY important. I drive like an idiot in the snow anyway so frankly it does not bother me much (those on here that know me will vouch).

If you never NEED to drive your Ranger, weld it up.

I agree with beanmachine, If its going anywhere near pavement don't bother welding them up, you have to go with a selectable locker unless you want to be replacing axle shafts frequently. I doubt your rig will be transported on a trailer for every time you wheel so I would strongly recommend a selectable locker. But if you truly do nothing but trails with some slip in the ground then weld em' up heavy and save yourself a couple hundred bucks!
