pipe size??????

Does anyone know the cat back pipe size on a stock 97 4.0??

I'm 90% sure it's 2" but the cat pipe looks like about 2.5. If I'm going with a new cat back system, should I get larger pipes?
 
It should be either 2" or 2.25" stock. Most aftermarket cat back kits are 2.5", I personally wouldn't go any bigger than that.
 
my 3.0 had 2 inch pipes, i upgraded to 2 1/4 pipes, helped the sound greatly. your 4.0 would run well w/ 2.5s if you chose to run them, i wouldnt go 3 inch or 2 3/4 unless your boosting.
