I know that the vin v 3.0 is made to run on E85 but I was wondering if I can replace it with a newer vin u 3.0. I probably will not be able to run E85 but that is not a problem. Will I need to replace the computer also? Thank you for your help.

The 3.0 is flex fuel...it runs on gas or E85, why would you want to switch it?

I have a 1999 ranger that I need to replace the motor in and I figured if I could use a vin u engine then it would give me more choices in searching for a replacement.

Hey, Mojo
I have the same truck. My flex was swapped out for a gas only 3.0 (engine blew from synchro). I havent had any major problems with mine. you may need to replace the injectors though as there are lb differences. I dont think mine where changed out though. Truck runs fine, not sluggish has power but doesnt get any better than 17 mpg with the engine light on and i cant figure it out. I've had the light ever sice replacing the motor. Mine has the flex computer still in use and yes, It does work.
