Allright, before I bought my exhaust, I had no idea what a flowmaster 40 would sound like on a 2.9l. all of the reviews that i had heard were for 4.0l engines. This is why i decided to write a review on this muffler. It has a very deep rumble at idle (at least for a 2.9l), it is very quiet until you hit 2000 or 2500 rpm and then it sounds awesome, it also seems to have a little bit more power.
This is a great muffler. I would reccomend it to anyone.:icon_thumby:

What muffler? The flo-pro or the flowmaster 40 series? They're two different brands of chambered mufflers. I run the flo-pro on both my 3.0L and my small block ranger and the sound is unique. It definatly throws out a powerful tone when the engine is built.

It is a unique sound. I personally believe that it sounds better than a glasspack on a v6. When I bought mine I was told that the flo pro and the flowmaster are the same thing. (same design, same performance same sound) but I have the flo pro and love it.

I've ran a flowmaster delta 40 series muffler on my V8 ranger, then switched to a flo-pro chambered muffler and they don't sound very close at all. That distinct flowmaster note was nice but when everyone and their brothers are runnin that same sound I chose to be different. The old man has the flo-pro mufflers on his truck and I've always liked it. I kept going back and forth on changing the mufflers out for a while before doing it and I'm very glad I did. Then I got one for the 3.0L ranger.

V8 2wd Ranger: Long tube headers into dual 3" pipe. Right after is a 3" X-pipe and dual 3" pipe into the flo-pro mufflers. After the mufflers it exits right in front of the rear tires tucked up neatly. With higher compression and a cam lope, these guys sound awesome. Before I start the truck I gotta say "iiiiiiits booooner time!".

3.0L 4x4 Ranger: JBA shorties into the JBA midpipe. From there 2.5" single pipe into a flo-pro SIDO muffler with dual 2.25" pipes exiting straight back tucked up under the rollpan with rolled 3" tips. The truck as a neat aggressive tone to it that resembles a performance V6 more than a ricey "buzzing" V6.

thanks. this is good to know. I was told that the flo pro and the flowmaster were the same thing, but the flo pro was just a cheaper off brand of the flowmaster. Now i really want to hear a flowmaster on a 2.9 to be able to tell the difference.

Probably what he meant was the Flowpro, which is essentially a Flowmaster.

i had a flowmaster on my 2.9, it kinda sucked because my small exaust leak, became a giant exaust leak, thus making it sound like crap, i hope it sounds better on the new mercades, hehehehe
