Brake Grind

BRAKES GRIND when you come to a stop. I have replaced the rubber lines in the front as the rotors, pads, and bearings were already done. When i replaced the lines it stopped for 2 days and now it is back. Should i go ahead and replace the pads,bearings, and have the rotors turned again.I do not want to do this if this is not the problem. Any help would be great.:icon_twisted:

if you've replace all that and it's still grinding, check that the backing plate is clearing the rotor...you may not hear it so much at higher speeds but it's noticeable at lower speeds...or does it only happen when you engage the brakes?

Could also be the rear brakes...

Only when you engage the brakes.The owner before me did the brakes the day before i bought it. I had to what for him to do it to pick it up. I did the rears a month ago thinking that was the problem. It only dose it when the truck is about to come to a stop i.e going very slow.

I have brand new pads and rotors on my 99 and they squeel when I get on the brakes, i've just come to accept that it's metal on metal contact.

mine is doing the same thing. i don't notice the grinding all the time just like you mentioned. It still stops good and doesn't squeal so I'm puzzled. I am taking mine to the shop next week I'll let you know what they say.

I shoot the back of the pads on every brake job I do with CRC Disc Brake Stop Squeak or whatever it's called. The only vehicle I have had continue to make noise after that is my moms '04 Rav4 S that she uses for her mail route, but that one I think is because of the friction compound because the old brakes never made a noise.

I replaced my valucraft rotors for duralast and my valucraft pads for duralast and it went away...:icon_rofl:Crazy what a price difference makes on your vehicle.

Not to sound like a wise guy here, but I think the saying that comes to mind is "You get what you pay for" so yeah, I agree, price can make a huge difference on parts, lol. What's really odd is the pads on my moms car is they are the Wager Quiet Stops, which if I remember right aren't exactly the cheap ones, but the guy at the store got tired of searching for the record of the old pads on my account (commercial level 4 at Advance, so I've got a buttload of stuff on record there) so he grabbed those and gave to us for warranty.

Most definately, I learned that going cheap on some things is ok, but on others is not! I know how it is with buying chit, I should take stock out in autozone i've bought so much chit there.

I have noticed the grind problem as well (drums - shoe, hardware, & drums itself- replaced Nov 2006 / Front- rotors, bearings, pads - June 2008). I replaced pads with ceramic/metalic composite. At first light breaking would cause squeal. Squeals gone, but firm moderate to heavy slow speed braking I get the grind. I can see no rotor damage, and the pads still have plenty of meat. No heat build up (as if dragging caliper of pad), so I assume it is just the ceramic taking a bite.
