i came across a '65,'66, or a '67 galaxy 500 in a junk yard owned by a friend of the family. the car is in fairly good shape. it doesnt have the hood, wheels, or motor but other than that its decent. my question is if i restore this car can i get a title for it (the junk yard doesnt have one)? if so how?

thanks

Yes, you can get a title. There are a couple of ways. One is to get a bill of sale from the junkyard and apply for a lost title and the other is to title it as an assembled vehicle. You live in a different state so you need to seach "North Carolina Code" on google and find the vehicle title section. You will know more than the knuckleheads in the BMV do so print out what you need when you go to title it. I've gone round the ring with the Indiana BMV so many times over various things--home built trailers, converted schoobus, registering boats I've built, changing states, commercial vehicle plates. You have to be well armed with the code when you color outside the lines. Don't rely on what anyone tells you. Find it yourself and then be willing to spend half a day making yourself be right. I almost had to pound the guy at the state park for charging me as a bus when my bus is typed as an RV now--he ended letting me in for the $4 rate--then I found out I was wrong and that RVs should be charged the bus rate. Being an asshole is not news to me so me self esteem wasn't damaged. But I never back down to pawn-level state employees so be prepared to do battle. But it's fun. They do what they are told, but rarely have the imagination to check and see if what they are told is what is in the book.
