how bad is it to wheel in 4low without locking the hubs in? i have a 95 ranger running 35s and the gears are way to high to wheel with, unless i am in 4low. it would be nice if i could use 2low if it won't jack stuff up. my buddy has a 94 ranger and he said he does it all the time, but it don't sound real smart to me. thanks for any input guys.

basically if you have a 4x4 with manual hubs you can rock it in "2low" you can use the low range in 2wd an wont hurt any thing.. now if you have auto hubs you wont be able to do this because the truck is going to go into 4x4

Yep, 2WD Low works great in long drive thru lines. I am constantly using it while backing trailers, why work the clutch when you can use Low Range.

As they have all siad, nothin' wrong at all with using 4low without locking in the hubs (2low). I do it all the time when I am wheeling.

I do it too, usually when pulling out a boat... on the steep ramp it helps so i don't fry the clutch. When I get to the top of the ramp, i pop it back in 2hi and away I go.

I've been doing it for 6 years now, don't always need to be in 4wd but I find the low range comes in handy.

wow i never thought of using 2low in the drive thru lines, i'm constantly clutching in the tim horton's line up every morning, great advice, however, my truck tends to like to speed forward if i give it to much gas in low range, gotta love the 4.56s

i haven't hurt my rear axle yet doing it,but i'm pretty sure ford recommends against it because low range has a huge torque multiplication.if you shock load it without the front to absorb half the torque something could break.anyway when you do use 2 low take it easy on it so the rear diff doesn't see 900lb/ft.

Wow, i allways thought it would really f*$% somthing up if you didnt lock the hubs in, thats great. So it doesnt matter if you have push button 4x4 or a stick on the floor? i have manual hubs and push buton 4x4.
