8.8 width?

Which year? 90-92 are narrower than 93+

The link just given leads you too many places. From backing plate to backing plate is 54". The tech section does have the right dimensions to answer your questions, it's under the 7.5/8.8 section. Brake to brake also depends on 9/10" brakes.

Ummm no...
The info is right there out in the open on that page:

RBV axles have the following widths at the flanges:
    '83-'90 D28 front = 58"
    '90up D35 front = 59.5" (both TTB & SLA)
    '83-'92 Ranger rear axle = 56.5" (7.5 & 8.8)
    '93up Ranger rear axle = 58.5" (7.5 & 8.8)
Bronco II rear axle = 58"
    Explorer rear axle 59.5"

Of course one needs to know WHICH 8.8" axle they want to know info about... Without that, no one can accurately answer the question anyway.

Right...are we talking full-width (F-150) or half-width (Explorer/RBV) ???

I thought all RBV 8.8s were the same width...

nope, they got wider in the 93 trucks (7.5 as well)

can you swap a 93+ axle with a pre 92 axle and visa-versa?

Yes. The width difference is outboard of the leaf spring perches.
