You should be able to switch the bellhousing off the 4.0 and put it in the 2.3, I think. Take a look. The 4 cyl trans is a little lighter duty to the 4.0 and probably not be a good idea to mate it to it, although it theoretically would work.
the 2.3 and 4.0 use a different bellhousing bolt pattern.
automatic transmission bellhousings can be swapped, but manual transmission bellhousings are a cast part of the transmission case...they cannot be removed. i wouldnt use a 4 cylinder auto behind a 4.0...it will not last long.
the 2.3l standard trans can hold up to like 400 whp so if u can find an adapter kit to make it bolt up straight to the 4.0l then i would do that. i dont know if they make an adapter kit for that.
they don't make an adapter that I know of, they're the same trannies other than the case and a different first gear ratio for the 4.0 manual tranny. as far as the auto goes, the 4.0 tranny is beefier than the other versions...
cool thanks for the replies i will have to look for a 4.0 rwd trans manual if i need to the motor i have now is good so just wondering what my options were thanks again
