hey i have a 84 ranger with a 85 2.8... the oil rings are junk in it so it goes through oil like its out of style... so im going to put a Fi 2.9 in it or a Fi 4.0... what would be easyer and better for me... i would like the 4.0 for the power... i dont know too much about trucks and what cross member bars and all that are... i inder stand how to plug and unplug connectors and how to weld and move a mount...

detail please as much as possable...

To be honest starting from where you are starting...
a 4.0 isn't technically any more difficult than a 2.9 swap,

But given your disclaimer on your mechanical ability Either might be more than you can handle without a lot of learning as you go.
