Hey guys... gettin the engine together and have a question about the valve seals.

In my fel-pro rebuild kit from summit its got 3 bags of valve seals, the intake seals, umbrella seals and more that look similar to the intake seals but with 2 small rings instead of 1 small one thick.

On my heads now all i have is plastic umbrella type seals... but i dont see how those could seal anything. The first time the valve moves those are going to be half way up and stay there...

My question is are these other double small rings seals intended to be used on the exhaust valves? Ive heard of 2 kinds of seals, one of which being the umbrella type. Do i use both seals? Im kind of lost and i dont have any info on valve seals in ALLDATA.

You use the seals your heads are milled for. Ford started with the PC type seals with the E7TE heads on the Mustangs, and went with them on the others in the late 80's. If the guides aren't milled for these, you'll have to use the umbrella seals or get the guides done for the others.

they both fit... and the other heads i have dont have the umbrella seals:s

I talked to the guys at the ford dealer... they said to not use the umbrella style. Thats the answer i like, and so im going to do that. Except now ive got to go back and change the ones ive already put umbrellas on. Oh well.
