Not much you can do to a 2.3... Factory exhaust mani's technically a header... (94ish and up i believe)
Intake mani's pretty unrestrictive even including the intake itself if you pull the silencer.

Boring .30 or so over's alright but you still won't gain much power... you can stroke a 2.3 to a 2.5...

Other then that, best bets to do a turbo motor swap, or forged internals, and boost the bajesus out of it. Atleast... that's my plan :)

yea do wut i did and many others did and buy a xr4ti/svo/TC engine internals and put big turbo on it. thats a fast way to get power.... beleive me. ford 2.3l+boostin=hella ride. now u can do as some of my friends did and bore it. port&pollish oversized valves. cut and rotated polished intake manifold, then ur lookin at hella power. beleive me his ranger shits all over mine all day.

Are you talking about your 84 ranger? You can bore that year about 60 over, mill the head 70-80 thousandths. You can get lightweight pistons and a 2.5 crank and rods(if your is a 84,you will have to get bearing spacers)A good hyd.roller cam and big valves,a better header, cam gear, intake and a 500 holley and start lighting things up.I can build you a good motor for$3500.00(we built several for local dirt track cars, putting a 2.5 together right now)makes a very poor street engine, usually won't idle below 1200 and makes most of its power at 7900 but will go to 84.Or you can go with a turbo and for about $1200 you can have a nice little motor your mother can drive.
