crutchfield said they wont fit behind the grille on the door. they said i have .525 between the door panel and the speaker mount and the infinity sticks out .625. can a tenth be shaved from the grille on the door panel? this for a 2000 ford ranger(regular cab). thanks in advance

thats just tweeter protrusion. they should fit no problem. worst case scenario you mave have to push the door panel on a little harder and the grill may bow out to make up for that .1 of an inch. but beware of the 2 ohm impedance! you can push them with just a radio but 2 ohm speakers are designed to be used with amps. the small amp built into the radio will get hot from the lower resistance in the speaker. heat+time=dead radio. The kappa series are known for being very bright speakers (the highs are very high).

while i was my local stereo shop i picked up some 6x8 to 6.5" brackets so i dont have to make my own and some speaker wire. i really want to install them ASAP, but i dont want to kill my reciever. so im going to look into an amp. how much power can i run to these speakers? i was thinking of getting this one:

you chose.... wisely.
mount the tweeters within 7" of the woofers, tweeters are directional.
as for an amp..... that kenwood will work just fine, but why not get a big 4 chan so you can do the rears later? the kenwood at 100RMS x 2 @2ohm should be just fine, you may even be able to fit it under the seat too.
remember the rules for wirirng 4 chan amps:
1. run power wire on the opposite side of the car than the rcas and speaker wires. if they must cross paths do it perpendicular (they "x")
2. use good rcas (>$20)
3. use the high pass filter (somewhere from 70hz to 120hz on your kappas)
4. at least 8 guage power wire for your amp. (4 would be better)

thanks for the reply. im thinking of getting the rockford fosgate p450.4:
60W x 4 @ 4-Ohms RMS
110W x 4 @ 2-Ohms RMS
225W x 2 @ 4-Ohms bridged RMS

i plan to get a 4 guage amp kit. later i plan to use the rear channels to power a shallow sub. im not even going to bother with the speakers behind the seat, ill probably just remove them. i can barely hear them anyway.

i noticed on the box that it has the 4ohm symbol next to a reciever and a big check mark. which made me think theyre compatible with 4ohm rated headunits. so i emailed infinity and got this:
Thank you for the inquiry. Yes, these 2ohm speakers are
compatible with your 4 ohm rated headunit. The actual impedance seen by
the head unit will much closer to 4 ohms and will not cause a problem.

either way, im removing the rear speakers and turning on the high pass filter. hopefully ill get them installed this weekend. next weekend i should have my amp

thats good info about the 2 ohm kappas and 4 ohm head units. I had heard for awhile that you could not use them without an amp that was rated at 2 ohm.

yeah, but i still think im taking a risk. its only going to be ran off the headunit for a week. then ill hook up a ed nine.4 and install some e-edead on the doors
