starter? or a short?

so here's what happens, put the key in and turn to on position, all dash lights come on that should. turn the key to start, and everything goes out, cant turn anything on. it might do that a couple times, then the engine will start. its completely random. battery tested good. its like the whole electrical system just shuts down.

any help is appreciated. thanks

check the connections at your battery. remove and clean each terminal then make sure they are tight upon reinstallation. it sounds like you have a loose/corroded connection somewhere.

mine was doing the same thing, i had to hit the starter to get it to start randomly, i replaced my starter.
All lights go out to give more power to the starter, its designed to do that,(well, it should start too

)
