Today, on my way home from work, my check engine light came on. This is really confusing, as I've had no engine problems before, it isn't idling strangely, it drives completely normal, all my fluids are checked/fine, all my lights are working and the engine itself sounds normal and is making no weird noises. My ABS light is on, but it has been for a while now.

My neighbor has a code reader, but he isn't in town this weekend and I'm sure as hell not taking it to a shop so my paycheck can go to waste. Is there anything I should be worried about or could this just be a fluke thing? I haven't messed with anything under the hood lately, so I don't think anything has been tripped. Any ideas on what this could be?

Run over to Autozone, or NAPA. they will read the code for free.

If have a loptop and don't mind spending $87 you can have a near professional grade OBDII diagnostic tool.

I purchased the BR-3 last year. Money well spent. It will talk to GM, Ford, and all car that use the 9141 protocols but not CAN BUS. That one needs a different interface.
