View Full Version : I feel wrong doing this but... MY K1500!!!

Let's get a little Chevy love!

My 1994 Chevrolet K1500, washed it (hosed it off) so I figured I'd take a few pics.

http://i387.photobucket.com/albums/oo319/antiosama706/CIMG3010.jpg
The engine doesn't look it but it only has 184 miles on it, no I didn't forget any zeros.

http://i387.photobucket.com/albums/oo319/antiosama706/CIMG3033.jpg

I have come to realize that if you are pulling out a Jeep and you have "Jeep Recovery Vehicle" on your tailgate the person in the Jeep will yell and flip you off.

http://i387.photobucket.com/albums/oo319/antiosama706/CIMG3021.jpg
Meats.

http://i387.photobucket.com/albums/oo319/antiosama706/CIMG3023.jpg
Remember Crazy Horse from Trucks!, yea I sent that thing flying out the first time I took it off-road, just like Stacy. :headbang:

http://i387.photobucket.com/albums/oo319/antiosama706/CIMG3022.jpg
So I did that to fix the problem, I know it's not pretty.

http://i387.photobucket.com/albums/oo319/antiosama706/CIMG3017.jpg
When all you tow is other vehicles out of the trails, thats all you need. It doubles as a boat anchor too, since it weighs 73 pounds.

http://i387.photobucket.com/albums/oo319/antiosama706/CIMG3015.jpg
Okay... it may be clear but OH MY GOD is it STRONG! And convenient for looking at my diff fluid for no apparent reason. :icon_thumby:

http://i387.photobucket.com/albums/oo319/antiosama706/CIMG3025.jpg
People say "Every scratch has a story", well I guess I can make "War and Peace" look like the "Little Engine That Could." It still shines enough so you can see the reflection of the toilet though.

http://i387.photobucket.com/albums/oo319/antiosama706/CIMG3032.jpg
Amazingly, I have yet to break the IFS. It sure makes for smooth landings though.

http://i387.photobucket.com/albums/oo319/antiosama706/CIMG3030.jpg
I gotta protect the transmission investment, with 3 coolers(counting the one in the radiator) it moved off of 105 once.

That's all I got, let me know what ya think. Oh yea, for those select few, keep the Chity Shevy comments to yourselves, I've probably already heard em all.

That's a pretty nice looking Chevy. And that is a HUGE rear bumper. Good pictures. Also where's you get the clear diff cover?

valleyvinyl84
03-05-2009, 02:12 PM
Thanks! I like to lovingly refer to that bumper as my "anti-tailgating device" just imagine headlights bouncing right off of that thing. I got the diff cover at work, Trans-Dapt makes them it's 1/4" Polycarbonate. I believe part # 8412 is for the 8.8.

That is the complete opposite of what I was expecting to see. I thought you were showing off a 1500 that you had just purchased from a rusting field somewhere.

It's a nice looking truck w/ respect. Impressed (I'd definitely rock it), and it's a head turner. Keep us posted when you DO break the IFS and decide to go to a better SAS. However, the visors are too much for me.

Have action shots?

valleyvinyl84
03-05-2009, 02:54 PM
Okay, the rusting field thing... 2 years ago you'd be spot on.

Thank you and when I DO break the IFS I WILL post carnage pics. It's pretty much set in stone that it will break I just don't know when, and I can't wait. Hopefully it'll be like when Petersons cracked the whole housing in half.

I was gonna toss the RacerBack, but under it the paint looks like a forearm before you donate blood. So I decided to put it back on.

No, action shots yet. I only had it out once since the reconstruction and my camera was sittin in my room. Would of been great pics though, flat towing a Wrangler over some pretty sick rocks. :icon_rofl:

Thanks for the compliments!

I dread the day I shatter one of those bedsides!

Actually, I bought the truck with them, then I put blue LED's in them because I have a SEVERE addiction to blue lights. And judging by the dent in the front bumper... they don't help me. :icon_rofl:

Is it one of those stock POS ones?

JohnnyU

If you mean the stock ones that are 1/4" thick, then yes.

Yea I figured, I already have one on the truck. It's in pretty good shape, for my 2nd one.

Koda I'll keep you in mind if I get bored of it. :icon_thumby:

Everyone loves that bumper until they're behind me, at night, in traffic.

I wouldn't have anywhere near the money it would take for me to buy that.

:D

It is my favorite body style of the fullsizes.

I believe it's a FEY, it was on the truck when I bought it. However, the lack of scratches on the top are wider like the FEY grip tape pads.

I did bust that 10 bolt, and I put another 10 bolt in (I know dumb move) because it was before I went nuts with the truck soo ummm yeah.... Hopefully both don't go at the same time, although it is unlikely that's my luck. :icon_rofl:

bobbywalter
03-05-2009, 10:14 PM
well then......

start 60 shopping for the front after you get a 14 bolt in there....

you been warned!!!!

valleyvinyl84
03-05-2009, 10:23 PM
:icon_rofl:

I planned on the swap but I'll run it til it breaks, I got a 60 "lined up" and I can get a 14 bolt a few miles away.

a little too much plastic for me

Same here but I do like your truck :icon_thumby: even if the axles are ticking time bombs :icon_rofl:

I wanna see an update on how much abuse that diff cover takes when ya get to wheelin it... I remember a while back hearing that they break easily but I've never seen it myself.

valleyvinyl84
03-05-2009, 11:55 PM
Hey, watch it! They didn't break yet... well the front at least. :icon_rofl:

As for the diff cover it seems much stronger than a stamped steel one (granted polycarbonate has nothing on nodular iron or steel plate) but cold + rocks and stumps = worrying me a little. If there is carnage... no... WHEN there is carnage, pics will be taken and it will be posted. I see the cover outliving the diff though. And thanks. :icon_thumby:

If I ever had to own a full size, you can bet I'd get one of these.

I would have gotten one, but I was 5-10 years too late on the market to get one that hadden't almost been beat to death.

My dad got his '92 GMC 1500 in '94, I hope my F-150 will be as good of a truck when it gets to that age as that thing has.

I passed up on the truck a few years back and a buddy of mine bought it with a cracked windshield and wrinkled fenders (rough landing?). He fixed all of that then sold it, and I bought it and dove into fixing everything else. So mine was far from "nice" a few years ago. :icon_thumby:

Well, probably not because I wouldn't have my current job if I didn't live here.

It seems to sag in between the cab and the box. Hopefully you don't have one of those frames where Chevy put a bunch of holes and notches in it for some reason.:icon_confused:

But, yeah, that's a perfect play truck. Common, easy to work on, LOTS of available upgrades, fun offroad. Nice :icon_thumby::icon_thumby::icon_thumby:

valleyvinyl84
03-08-2009, 06:30 PM
Thanks! And as for that sag, I forgot when I was sayin how messed up the truck was a few years back, the one rear body mount was rotted/blown through the cab. It's fixed but not perfect... as you can tell. :icon_thumby:

has your vacuum hubs ****ed up yet? i remember that was famous in my GMC, had the same floor shifter and everything, and most times it wouldnt go into 4wd lol

350 rebuilt?

im one to say i'm apart of the "anti-tail gating device" club too...check out the pintle on my 250, heh thing weighs close to 70 lbs!

i had gotten rear ended once before when i had it in my 07 ranger, put a huge hole in some chicks bumper in a drive-thru. She was cursing and yelling saying i shouldnt have had it on there, when i moved forward to pull it out of her bumper, it just about took her whole bumper off lmao

Those "auto hubs" have yet to act up, I guess I'm lucky.

The 350 is rebuilt. Valley Auto Parts. :headbang:

I would call that more of a "Rear End Collision Entertainment Device" :icon_rofl:

There are no "auto" hubs, the half shaft is splined directly into the wheel hub, just the same as the Late model Dodge or Jeeps. There is a Thermo-electric actuator on the front axle (Similar to the Early Dodge/Jeep CAD) that engages the front axle. They are notorious for failing, but only on the S-10 platform were they vacuum controlled. Later models use an upgraded electric actuator.

Hence why I said "auto hubs" (quotation marks), a few hours later I had a flash back to changing the driver side CV axle. :icon_thumby:

Very nice. Reminds me of a buddys truck, an 88 stepside std cab just like your style. Cool trucks. You'd probably like my friends rig, 8" over stock on a 14FF and D60 locked front and rear, all on 38.5 boggers. Same kid has a 90 long box IFS and it has done well for him. I must admit I have a soft spot for really big chevys, especially with 3 speed w/ granny low! Man that truck came alive when he ditched his 5th turbo 350 for the stick.

Having said that, only little boys wear bow ties.

Did any of the Chevy K series of that time period come with a solid front axle stock?

I remember my 78 Chevy had a solid axle stock. But that's roughly 20 years older than yours.

No but belive it or not he actully traded it for A 4X4 RANGER which I later traded my 2wd ranger for, it's the 2.3 in my profile <------------which I no longer have. The 2.3 could take my abuse but I loved that truck and will miss very much.
He was on his way over to my house to do a tune up on his truck and the roads were icy, he called and said he slid of the road and needs pulled out. I said Ok what do u want me to do about it.
