I have a 99 2.5L ranger with some chattering lifters. I plan on swapping out the engine because cost wise I could get another 2.5 for less then it would cost me to tear down the old motor and start replacing parts. I'm wondering though what would be good to swap it with? I was thinking like a 3.0 or 4.0 in the same era and if I went that way would that be basically simple? OR should I just ignore those lifters that have chattered for the past three years and do some basic bolt-ons for a lil more pep? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind though that money is not abundant and reliability is a necessity.
