im in the process of rebuilding a 8.8 explorer diff and now i have to weld the leaf spring plates on and the shock mounts. i read up on the tech library that the perch to perch distance is the same as the ranger just has to be welded on the opposit side, i got an angle finder got the angle off of the leaf spring perches on the old 7.5 and the new ones will be welded with the same angle on the 8.8. i know as far as shock mounts go they have to be around 3 inches away from the spring perch but have to go on opposite sides and have to be at 40 degrees since i dont have a welder at my home i am bringing the diff elsewhere to get welded so their is no test fitting. are the shock mounts mounted under the axle and angled up at 40 degrees? all of this sound right anyone who has done this befor ran into any certain problems or am i goin in the right track? thanks

I just dropped off my Explorer rear to get welded yesterday all the info i have found so far is:
1:Spring perches are the same distance apart as the ranger just on the other side.
2:I had my pinion angle set a 6 degrees.
3:the shock mounts are 3 3/4" between the perches and the shock mounts (inside to inside).
4:Have the tubes welded to the housing as the tubes are only pressed in.

any other questions can be answered here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/Explorer8_8.html

Actually they are plug welded, it still isn't a bad idea to have the tubes welded all around to the housing though.
