stock sway bar on 1984 ranger 2wd

did they come with them? mine didnt. im going to add some from lmc truck.

I was wondering the same thing. My 84 2wd doesn't have one either.

Double check, on the earlier Rangers the front sway bar is mounted between the radius arms behind the I beams. And it's huge!

i'm pretty sure that's only on 4wd.

my 88 has no sway bar, and i've never seen an early 2wd with a sway bar.

describe huge, stock is only 7/8 to 1'' typically. an upgrade is 1 1/4 so it cant be that huge

First time I saw one it was on a buddies 88 GT. It was 1 1/4" in diameter and only 2 1/2 feet wide. In my opinion that's huge for a Ranger.

I ended up installing one on my 91 as well as a 7/8" rear sway bar.

I've seen several since, but never bothered to check their size.

It's funny though, I don't think I've ever seen one on a 4x4? :icon_confused:

Does your 84 have these on the i-beams?

If so it's the same as my 84 and I never could find a OEM sway bar that would fit it. I ended up with an aftermarket 1 1/4" bar, can't recall the brand at the moment. Let me tell you when you get your hands on a sway bar that size you'll understand huge. If you don't have that stud there, but a bolt instead you could probably install a gen II sway bar from the junk yard. The rear will take any ranger sway bar. Personally I picked up a 1" rear bar out of a BII for cheap, but haven't installed it yet due to trouble locating the correct poly bushings. If you get an oem rear bar LMK and I'll try to help you with the correct bushings.

Oh and I would look else where than LMC their price can be beat.

The stock front sway bar on RANGERS (not bronco2's) from 1983-87 (except on some late '87 production STX trucks) is a MASSIVE chunk of steel that is an honest 1-1/4" in diameter that is tucked INSIDE the box of the radius arms and actually runs across inside the channel formed in the underside of the radius arm crossmember.

a Picture that shows the radius arm bushings will usually show it peeking out.

IF you get it from LMC truck I hope their price includes a "Reach around"
and free lube for the bar... you can get one a shitpot cheaper just by scavenging one from the local junkyard.

The end brackets are a simple U-bolt that replaces the paired bolts on a plate that
montes the lower shock mount gussett on the radius arm.

Literally the only tools you'll need to get it out are a 15mm socket for the center mounts and an 18mm socket to disconnect the U-bolts

It's sometimes a bit tricky to snake it out, but believe me it will come out.
