torque converter removal

is it very difficult to remove a torque converter from a 5r55e? and i am also wondering if a torque converter from a 4r55e will work with a 5r55e. reason for this is because i swapped what i belived to be a 4r70w but was really a 4r55e + engine into my ranger and now am having to go back to my original tranny(5r55e) but with my original tranny my torque converter was going out so i could use some knowledge help with this...

No the 4R55E torque convertor will not work with the 5R55E. Two totally different internals between the transmissions. The noise you were hearing is the lockup clutch inside the torque convertor. Your best bet is to go buy a new or remanned convertor. If you get one from a JY you may end up with the same problem. The 4R70W's are only found behind your newer V8 Ford engines. Those look like an AOD transmission.
 
well we have no junkyards here so i would need to buy a new one, but i have no cash. if i put my 5r55e back in without doing anything and the torque converter goes completely out will that mess anything else up inside my tranny or will i just be forced to go get a new torque converter and put it in?
