I just got a 92 4 cyl ranger. It quit running on my brother and he let it sit all winter. He's not mechanically inclined in the least. Pretty sad he calls his sister when his vehicles need work. It started up almost immediately for me but was idling rough. Bogged down and wanted to stall whenever I hit the gas and then just died and couldn't get it to start again. Not that I tried too hard. I have the battery charging now and the truck has plenty of fuel. Disconnected the fuel filter yesterday for a quick second and seemed to have pressure in the lines. I'm wondering where to start. Could the cat be plugged? I heard that there are possibly two fuel pumps. I haven't checked too much on it yet considering that it is currently 10 degrees and blowing and snowing here. Just wondering if any of you knowledgeable gentlemen have any ideas to get me started.

I thought the vehicle had to be running to check the MAF sensor? I have never had a vehicle with a problem with that so any more detailed info would be great.

Start at the beginning, The battery. Just move down the line checking the basics and then moving on to advanced problems. Do you plugs wires, check the quality of your timing belt (visual check) If it wont start check the starting system and make sure you dont hAVE multiple problems. I wont drag it out step by step but you get the idea.
