Just wondering if anyone could tell me i just got a 86 diesel ranger 5 speed manual 4x4 and just wondering if anyone know of hand what xles would be in it and if they will hold 35's:icon_cheers:

d28 up front and ford 7.5 out back.

They won't like 35's too muchm especially the d28

so what you figure 33 better idea have the 6 inch and lots of room to barry the 33'S

Swap to the later D35 and 8.8" and 35s shouldn't be a problem then.

33s are pushing it with the D28...if you leave it open, weld the caps in, and don't beat the hell out of it you'll be ok.

Complete Dana 35s can be had at many junkyards for pretty cheap, and it's basically a bolt-in swap.

With some basic upgrades like 760 joints, full retainers, and Jeep hubs you can turn 35s very reliably. With a Dana 44 outer knuckle swap, you can run 38s. Several guys on here do so.

they made a diesel 4x4 ranger???
From about '85 to '88 I think, yes.
At this point they are rare and difficult to find parts for. Pray to God that the tranny stays okay.
IMO the above question is irrelevant because the diesel put out a whopping 88 hp, so it isn't going to turn 35's anyway. :D

Just put a doubler in and you can turn the tires with a weedwacker engine. :D

5.38 are in the works and i had a toy before and if a little 4 banger 22r can turn 33's no problem i will have a little more bottom end torgue actually parts aint hard to find everything is the same to every other ranger just not under the hood they made them 84 through 86 early years no turbo 85 and 86 went to mitsubishi turbo 4 banger diesel i goin to find bigger injectors turn the pump up and 538's and i don't think i will have an issue at all runnin 33's if the 2.9s can do it i think the littel diesel will and it a five spped tranny so i don't think i will have to worry much i know how to drive and there lots of parts in the interior or BC i know of
