mazda 5 sp not going into 1st gear on initail effort

went to go to store and truck gave resistance going into first gear on my initial try. then when i try again it works. what causes this?????? then while drivn down the road its tough to get it into gear at certain rpms. i have to whined it up a lil bit.

Sounds like a slave cylinder.

thats what i just read in the tech on here. where is my hydralic fluid supposed to be reading. it says on the cap resevior up to the step but thats kinda vague.could moisture in the air and rain cause this to not work???

Moisture? Not likely. You can try bleeding the clutch, but if it is the slave cylinder that probably wont help.

i just put a slave cylinder in it 1.5 yrs ago. it was fine last nite to. it hasnt been showing ne signs of trouble either.

It should work as long as there is fluid in the reservoir, but other than that I don't know what more to tell you than to fill up to the step.

moisture in the fluid can vaporize if heated excessively, but this is more common in brakes while racing or towing a trailer down a mountain. The cap has to be left off for moisture to get in, so unless you've been driving around without the cap it wouldn't be an issue.

there is a peak hole with a cover on it for your transmission, open it up and look inside. Look for fluid on the bottom of the bellhouse if that is it the slave is leaking. Most likley though you have a small leak and your res is low add fluid and bleed the clutch.

Sounds like the slave is on it's way out. I believe it can have an internal leak and not necessarily leak out into the tranny bellhousing. The only other culprit to look at would be the clutch master cylinder if you haven't already checked that out.
