86 ford ranger wont get fuel

Hello I have a 1986 for ranger 2.3l 4x4 and Its not getting fuel. I changed the fuel pumps but still nothing. When I turn the key to on the pumps come on and stay on. I pulled the lines off the pumps to make sure they are pumping and they are. I think it maybe a fusable link but I don't know where the one to the fuel pump is or what color it maybe. I also herd that it maybe a fuel pump relay or eec relay but don't know where that is either. If you have any idea please help. I sparyed som gas into the throttle body and it started so I know the injectors are not getting fuel.

Try pullin the fuel line of the fuel rail, then turn on the pump and see if the fuels gettin that far. Check the filters. I highly doubt it, but it actually could be your injectors. when u dumped that gas in the throttle body, the injectors had nothing to do with the motor running for a second. But its most likely a filter. Just start from the fuel rail and use process of elimination working back to the pump.

I just checked the fuel pressure gauge I guess it is. The tire valve looking thing on the fuel rail and it has lots of pressure it sprays out when I pushed the stem down.

that means fuel is getting to the rail. only thing inbetween the rail and the cylinders in the injectors. Has the truck been sitting for a long time?

No I had the starter stick and it burnt up the alternator, the starter relay and the battery. The truck shut off going down the road and would only click when I turned the key. I replaced the starter alternator, and battery.Then it would try and turn over but wasn't getting fuel. The fuel pump under the drivers seat would stay on but the rear fuel pump the one in the tank went so I replaced it. Now when I turn the key they both stay on. I think it has to be something electrical. What would cause the pumps to stay on? Is there something electrical that controls the injectors that might of got burnt up also? Who knew that a starter could do so much damage!

Pull the plug off the computer (EEC). Check for 12 volts at pins 58 and 59 on the 60 pin plug. These are for the fuel injectors, Pin 58 is cyl. 1 and 4, 59 is cyl. 2 and 3. When the key is on you should have power here. If you do then I would say bad computer. The computer opens the fuel injectors by grounding them.
You said with the key on the pumps run, without the engine runing the pumps should only run for about 2 sec. With the computer unpluged and key on check for fuel pumps. They should not be on. If they still are running it would point to bad fuel pump relay.

Top right is the F/P relay. Located on passengers inner fender. Might have a plastic cover over them.
If they are not running ground pin 22 on the 60 pin plug. Like the fuel injectors it is turned on by the EEC grounding it. If they come on I would lean toward the EEC again
www.fordfuelinjection.com will give you diagrams of the plug to tell where the pins are. There are numbers on the plug but they are hard to see.

I would think if you had pressure in the lines and nothing to the cylinders maybe the fuel injector relays like he said. The chances of the injecotrs being so clogged that it wont run is slim. Also check the plugs at the injecotors, make sure they are plugged in solid,. Also check all fuses under the hood. You can manually stimulate the injectors by the way by pulling them out, and running and wire to ground and a wire to the battery and touching the injector terminals, do each one at a time and you will be able to hear them click if they are working. That would be a starting point, and you can work back from there one step at a time.
